Mark H. Moffitt
Mark graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Utah in 1979 with a B.A. in Finance. By 1982, he had formed one of Utah’s first independent financial planning and investment advisory firms which became one of the largest wealth management firms in the state. Mark eventually sold his firm to focus exclusively on his client relationships, and became owner and Principal of Moffitt Wealth Management Group. In 2010, Mark merged Moffitt Wealth Management Group with Investment Management Consultants to rejoin a small group of elite advisors from his original firm.
Mark has 30 years of experience helping clients manage wealth. He believes strongly in proactive, tactical asset management designed to lower portfolio volatility while still striving to achieve reasonable returns. These tactical strategies were particularly defensive in difficult years like 2000-2002, and 2008. In addition to frequent communication with clients and long-term relationships, careful, on-going retirement, tax and estate planning are a hallmark of Mark’s practice.
Mark strongly believes that being an independent advisor offers clients better solutions as independence leaves him unconstrained by the marketing agendas and proprietary products imposed by large insurance companies and Wall Street firms.
Through Mark’s diverse background in asset management and as a business owner, he has acquired the following securities licenses: General Securities Principal and Representative, Financial and Operations Principal, Registered Investment Advisor and Utah Insurance licenses. He has also served on “Advisors Councils” for numerous firms including: SEI Investments, Fidelity Advisors Funds, Capital Research and Management (American Funds), Oppenheimer Funds, Franklin Templeton Funds, MainStay - New York Life Investment Management, Prudential and others.
Mark’s heads a team with decades of experience that includes Ryan Moffitt, Tyler McNeil (CPA/PFS) and Mary Ellen Larkin. Mark is married with five children and four grandchildren and enjoys family activities, golf, skiing, snowmobiling and collecting antique golf clubs and balls.
